Continuing our coverage of Salone del Mobile 2018, the Stylecraft team spent the day absorbing creativity and inspiration from Rho Fiera fairground. Heading to the well curated stands of Italian brand, Arper, and Japanese brand, Karimoku New Standard, we viewed their latest releases.
Drawing inspiration from “the values that drive us to shape our present and our vision”, leading Italian brand Arper presented the concept of Arper Values for their 2018 stand. Balanced, yet playful colour blocked scenes housed exciting new additions to the Arper family of products. The most striking of them all, Kiik, is a modular collection of seating, tables, ottomans and consoles. Designed by Iwasaki Design Studio with the intention of developing “islands for gathering”, the range addresses the needs of mixed-use waiting and lobby areas in education facilities, workplaces and retail spaces. The modular nature of Kiik make it a complementary addition to a myriad of contexts.
Also presented were extensions to existing collections with Pix now available in a Cubo range featuring new square and rectangular shapes, while Dizzie tables have expanded to include a marble top option. Salone del Mobile also saw Arper preview a new screen system, Paravan, to be officially released later in 2018.
Following seven shows in town as part of the Fuorisalone, Karimoku New Standard have for the second time exhibited at Rho Fiera. As always, the collection presented by Karimoku New Standard is as coherent as it is aesthetically desirable. This year saw leading Swiss design trio, Big-Game, release the Prop shelving and storage system together with the new Castor barstool with backrest. A preview of the stackable and versatile Panorama chair by Geckeler Michels was also on display, while the existing Elephant lounge range has also expanded to feature an armchair and ottoman.
