Showcasing a distinct Melbourne aesthetic was a major focus in the design by Bates Smart of the Visit Victoria office. Visit Victoria is a new organisation that consolidates the Melbourne Convention Bureau, Major Events Victoria and Tourism Victoria into one entity and is at the heart of Victoria’s world class tourism and events marketing. Bates Smart were issued with the challenge of aiding the seamless incorporation of these three separate companies into a single organisation to allow cohesion and eliminate unnecessary disruption that may result from such a move. This was achieved by a thoughtful design for the workplace which allows flexibility and encourages collaboration. As all staff, including the CEO, are located in the communal workplace, a key component of the design is the shift towards an inclusive open plan and flexible office arrangement that respects diverse needs and behaviours, whilst encouraging cross-business collaboration.

The 3,000 square metre project fitout features a new reception area, breakout areas, a new boardroom, various meeting rooms and open workspace areas with new services and finishes as well as feature timber screens and high-end joinery. The colour palette, graphics and furniture were selected for their alignment with the Melbourne aesthetic, whilst presenting a professional workplace suited to a premium stakeholder audience. Hoshi Armchairs and Lounges by Australian designer Tom Skeehan for Skeehan Studio feature prominently in the open plan office.
