Flinders University Health and Medical Research Building
The new Flinders University Health and Medical Research Building (HMRB) is a landmark medical research facility with national importance.
Acting as the centrepiece of the expansive Flinders Village Medical Hub, the structure unites leading research, education and clinical expertise with community, culture and nature.
Designed by Architectus, the 10 storey HMRB features locally designed and manufactured collections from Stylecraft.
A thorough consultation with the Cultural Narrative and Indigenous Art Advisory Panel by Architectus led to each level of HMRB featuring a different colour scheme symbolising the multicoloured sands of Rainbow Yarta (Country).
Terracotta is a hero colour throughout the exterior and interior to represent a strong link to country. Arper’s Catifa Up and Stacy chairs are used throughout the fit-out in tones to reflect this intention.
Architectus designed the building to be anchored around interconnecting staircases, with an importance placed on natural light to enhance wellbeing and an open flow of the individual levels to facilitate chance interactions.
Modular collections, such as Avion by Keith Melbourne and Bauhaus by LEN, provide zones for researchers, scientists and academics to be positioned for collaboration or private working depending on the activity.
