Sydney-based architecture firm Stewart Hollenstein, in partnership with Stewart Architecture, presented an innovative design concept for the Green Square Library and Plaza winning the 167-strong international competition in 2013. The result is a learning epicentre for the local community featuring an underground reading garden, amphitheatre, music room and multiple reading areas over numerous levels of the 6 level building. The project has also achieved a 5 Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia in recognition of the various sustainable elements in the design.
Prisma 2 Modular System by Derlot Editions features in an open reading area, with power incorporated into the elements for library user’s convenience. Custom U.R height adjustable tables by Thinking Works and Plop Ottomans by ESO are used throughout the design, including in one of the main reading rooms. The modular nature of the furniture selected by Stewart Hollenstein ensures longevity in the design, which is crucial for the rapidly increasing population forecasted in the Green Square Library precinct.
