BHP

Woods Bagot’s re-design of the BHP headquarters in Melbourne successfully creates a tactile environment for diverse working styles whilst also reflecting the company’s values and origins.

The space at 171 Collins St, Melbourne showcases Woods Bagot’s commitment to reflecting their client’s physical property assets, as seen in the tones, joinery, wayfinding and finish details. The interior forms a flexible workspace that includes collaborative zones, dedicated wellness areas and a central business lounge.

A focus on Australian designed and manufactured furniture resulted in the selection of several modular lounging ranges from Stylecraft’s collection. Adapt and Place lounging designed by Ross Gardam foster flexible work settings for private or shared work.

The finishes selected for the locally designed and manufactured Avion Meet & Armchairs by Keith Melbourne evoke earthy tones and textures to continue the connection to BHP’s geologies. The colour scheme was also strategically chosen to foster calmness in quiet areas and to create a sense of energy in collaborative zones.

“The planning strategy was based around organic forms that sit in the middle of the floor plate, creating a meandering circulation path to mimic the topography of the land, as well as providing legible, inclusive paths of travel.”

The Adapt collection was specifically designed to evolve with the dynamic needs of today’s workplace. Adapt achieves the design intent of creating a functional commercial product with residential junctions to foster a comfortable work environment.

The versatile Cila chair by Arper, both with and without arms, features throughout the fit-out in meeting and open areas to create a consistent aesthetic with its striking silhouette.

The Silo table, developed by Thinking Works, has been utilised as a flexible standing table for dynamic meetings and to offer alternative seating/standing options to a conventional meeting room.
