Revisiting Richter
Prostoria brings Vjenceslav Richter’s modernist legacy to life, developing his designs through contemporary production for modern-day use.
As part of Prostoria’s 2026 collection, Revisiting Richter returns to the archive of Croatian architect, artist and designer Vjenceslav Richter. Presented at this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan and now entering production, the collection draws on archival drawings, photographs, models and prototypes to bring ideas conceived more than half a century ago into the present.
Recognised as a key figure in European modernism, Richter worked across architecture, art and design, with a practice defined by experimentation, structural logic and an interest in everyday life. His furniture reflected this architectural approach, using structure, proportion and function as part of the visual language.

To translate Richter’s work for contemporary use, Prostoria formed Richter+, bringing together Croatian design studios Numen/ForUse, Neisako and Grupa with Prostoria’s in-house research and development team. Rather than simply reproducing historical objects, the collaborative team studied Richter’s design intentions, proportions and construction principles, refining them through contemporary manufacturing, materials, ergonomics and standards of comfort.

The collection comprises five furniture families and 20 pieces, spanning designs conceived between 1951 and 1961 alongside new pieces developed from their underlying principles. Together, VR51, VR52, VR53, VR58 and VR61 trace the evolution of Richter’s furniture thinking, from rational workspace systems and exposed steel structures to increasingly sculptural timber forms.

With the Richter Collection, Prostoria carries these ideas forward through contemporary production, bringing Richter’s work into today’s furniture and interior landscape.
