Michael Kirby Building Macquarie University
The new Michael Kirby Building designed by HASSELL for Macquarie University’s Wallumattagal Campus has been unveiled as a landmark learning destination hub.
Housing the Macquarie University Law School & the Department of Philosophy, the new building was adapted from a previously under-utilised administration building and courtyard to form a new light-filled centre with a central atrium to facilitate students, staff, alumni and visitors. The interconnectivity and flexible design ensure the building is able to evolve with the University’s future requirements.
Kiik Modular Lounge designed by Iwasaki Design Studio for Arper in a main thoroughfare acts as point to pause or converse. The white base and subtle upholstery allows Kiik to almost disappear into its surrounds and not detract from the interconnectivity of the atrium and flow of students and staff.
Receiving a People’s Choice award in the 2024 Annual Australian Timber Design Awards, the fit-out features extensive use of timber to create a calming environment connected to its surrounds. Accents of red create anchoring moments for seating and collaboration to contrast the extensive use of natural materials. A red Adapt Curve by Ross Gardam with rear shelving was selected by HASSELL to facilitate an interactive meeting zone.
The Adapt collection of modular lounges and accessories are designed to evolve with the dynamic needs of interior fitouts. Offering a diverse range of compositions, Adapt’s modular nature allows components to be easily reconfigured, creating solutions for now and into the future.
