Thornbury House

Thornbury House, designed by C. Kairouz Architects, effortlessly blends a contemporary aesthetic with the Federation history of the home.

The light-filled space features a natural palette and emphasis on connectivity in the home. Locally made ranges such as PaperTube chair by Mr Frag and Jeffrey Table by Stylecraft create an inviting dining space for the residents.

In the living space, Lattice Rug by James Walsh, Kaufmann Lounge by Mr Frag and Altar Table by Tacchini form a warm atmosphere sympathetic to the heritage of the home.

Balancing simplicity with material integrity, the PaperTube chair by Mr Frag is locally made in Australia featuring a woven paper cord seat. The tactile nature of the chair, referencing traditional Danish furniture making methods, brings a warmth to contemporary spaces. With its clean lines and lightweight frame, the PaperTube chair offers comfort for long meals and meaningful conversations.

Also locally made, the clean geometry of the Jeffrey table is inspired by the urban landscapes of late Australian artist, Frank Jeffrey Edson Smart AO. The pairing of Jeffrey table and PaperTube create a setting that invites connection and elevates the dining experience.

A hallway with pressed iron panelling detail frames a Torii Love console, designed by Studiopepe for Tacchini. The Torii Love console is inspired by traditional Japanese portals, re-discovered through new functions and meanings.

An nh table lamp designed by Neri&Hu for Artemide rests upon the Torii Love console. The design is reminiscent of a lantern with a contemporary update.

Merging luxurious texture with refined design, the Lattice Rug by James Walsh for Stylecraft, anchors the living space with its warm, sophisticated presence The cream and shiraz tones perfectly suit the Federation heritage of Thornbury House. Crafted from New Zealand wool, its intricate weave and contrasting grid lines bring depth and elegance to the room.

Also by an Australian designer, the Kaufman lounge chair pays homage to a mid-century master. Designed by Frag Woodall, the architectural forms of the lounge take reference from one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most esteemed architectural works, the ‘Falling Water’ house.

Surrounding the rug, the Altar Table and Sesann Lounge by Tacchini add layers of timeless style and comfort. The Altar table’s sculptural form complements the inviting design of the Sesann lounge, creating a harmonious atmosphere. Together, these pieces come together, along with the Lattice Rug and Roopa table by Arper, to create a balanced, cohesive space where design and comfort effortlessly meet.
